The aim of the Fraunhofer Center for Digital Diagnostics is to develop technologies and solutions along a digital-diagnostic value chain for decentralized bioanalytical data acquisition, secure and efficient data communication and intelligent data interpretation for the fight against infectious diseases and diseases of the immune system, veterinary medicine as well as food and environmental analysis. The Fraunhofer Center for Digital Diagnostics brings together the expertise of a nucleus of three contributing core institutes: The Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI in Leipzig, the Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI-BB in Potsdam and the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE in Kaiserslautern. Beyond its core institutes, the center has access to the entire expertise of the Fraunhofer network for the implementation of customer projects. With increasing urbanization, modern and cost-efficient healthcare in rural regions requires new solutions that are supported or even made possible by decentralized and digitally integrated diagnostics. This has been impressively demonstrated not least by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it has also led to greater openness towards online consultations and other telemedicine approaches. However, these quickly find their limits in their lack of scalability and the lack of diagnostic information in the medical history and treatment decision. The center has set itself the goal of closing these gaps with needs-based solutions and technologies. Beyond the primary and secondary healthcare market, the center is also present in fields of application with comparable challenges. These include, for example, veterinary medicine as well as food and environmental analysis. In addition, the Fraunhofer Center for Digital Diagnostics sees itself as a driving force for companies in diagnostics, medical technology, digital health and health IT as well as a partner for healthcare providers active in this field.
