SteMaTo is developed by Besco, a company that was founded by Jos Bessemans in 2002. In 2007 of Besco broadened with the analysis of the Central Sterilization Department (CSD) in many large Belgian and Dutch hospitals to ultimately result in a specific software SteMaTo (Sterilization Management Tool). This also leaded to opportunities in international markets. SteMaTo is still led today by Jos Bessemans together with wife Marie-Rose Tabruyn and son Bert Lantin.
